Rams Wrap Up Preseason with Promising Glimpses Despite 19-17 Loss to Browns
The Los Angeles Rams concluded their 2025 preseason with a narrow 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns, but the final score doesn’t reflect the valuable insights gained from the contest. While the Rams finished the preseason with a 2-1 record, the game served as a crucial final evaluation for players on the roster bubble and showcased the team’s depth and potential heading into the regular season. The game featured the highly anticipated debut of rookie wide receiver Terrance Ferguson, a strong performance from quarterback Dresser Winn, and several players making a final push for a spot on the 53-man roster. With the preseason now complete, the Rams turn their full attention to the Week 1 opener against the Houston Texans at SoFi Stadium.
Terrance Ferguson Shines in NFL Debut
After being sidelined with a groin injury for much of training camp and the first two preseason games, second-round rookie Terrance Ferguson made his long-awaited NFL debut and did not disappoint. The explosive wide receiver hauled in two receptions for 48 yards, including a spectacular 33-yard catch down the left sideline. He also had a 67-yard touchdown reception called back after he stepped out of bounds, but the play demonstrated his big-play ability and the threat he poses to opposing defenses. Ferguson’s performance was a major bright spot for the Rams, and it’s clear that he will be a key weapon in their offensive arsenal this season. His presence will also allow the Rams to experiment more with 12 personnel, giving them even more offensive flexibility.
Winn and Waters Lead the Offense
Quarterback Dresser Winn got the start in the preseason finale and delivered a solid performance, completing 15 of 23 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. He led the Rams on a go-ahead scoring drive in the fourth quarter, capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run from running back Jordan Waters. Winn showed great poise and leadership, and he has likely solidified his spot as the team’s backup quarterback. Waters also had a strong showing, rushing for a team-high 42 yards on six carries and scoring the go-ahead touchdown. He provided a much-needed spark to the running game and has made a strong case for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Roster Battles and Defensive Standouts
The preseason finale was the last chance for players on the bubble to make their case, and several players stepped up with impressive performances. Undrafted free agent linebacker Shaun Dolac was held out of the game, a strong indication that he has already secured a roster spot. Offensive linemen David Quessenberry and Warren McClendon Jr. also did not play, suggesting that they are safe from roster cuts. On the defensive side of the ball, safety Tanner Ingle was all over the field, recording six tackles on defense and three on special teams. His hard-hitting style and versatility make him a valuable asset, and he has a good chance of making the team. The Rams’ defense as a whole had a strong showing, recording six sacks, including one on Browns’ starting quarterback Joe Flacco. While the late penalties that led to the Browns’ game-winning field goal were a disappointment, the overall performance of the defense was a positive sign heading into the regular season.
Looking Ahead to the Regular Season
With the preseason now in the books, the Rams are focused on their Week 1 matchup with the Houston Texans. The team has a talented roster with a good mix of veterans and young players, and they are poised to make a run at the Super Bowl. The preseason provided a valuable opportunity for the team to evaluate its talent and build chemistry, and they are now ready to hit the ground running in the regular season.
