LOS ANGELES — The Kings fell short in overtime as they lost to the Red Wings, 4-3.
After a long five-game road trip, the Kings were ecstatic to be back in front of their home crowd. The Kings would look to translate their road momentum back in Los Angeles.
While the hope for Los Angeles was high at first, it dwindled down towards the end of the third. With only three minutes left, the Kings trailed 3-1.
As it looked all but over, the Kings went to a six-on-five advantage with an empty net. The extra man resulted in Los Angeles scoring two quick goals to force overtime.
Kevin Fiala seemed to be the hero with the game-winning goal. However, it was overturned due to a goaltender interference call.
In the shootout, Lucas Raymond scored the only goal for the Red Wings. The Kings failed to score in the shootout as Detroit sneaked out the win.
“It’s not easy coming back [to] your first game home after being on the road for five, said Corey Perry. “I thought we battled hard right to the end.”
Marco Kasper was the main star as he scored two goals for Detroit. Alex DeBrincat pitched in on offense with a goal and an assist.
Despite the defeat, Corey Perry led the way with two goals. Quinton Byfield was the playmaker and notched in two assists.
The Kings are right back at Crypto.com arena on Saturday against the Devils. A win for Los Angeles is the needed response to this heartbreaking loss.
Penalty kills are crucial for the Kings as New Jersey is elite in power plays. The Kings must stay out of the penalty box if they want a different outcome on Saturday.
