LOS ANGELES — USC men’s basketball team was back in action at home as they dominated the visiting Eastern Washington, 106-78.
The Trojans were led by they senior guard Boogie Ellis who finished the game matching his season-high with 28 points.
Ellis was locked in from downtown as he made a career-high eight threes. He shot 80% from three, making 8 out of 10 attempts.
The team made 12 3-pointers in total.
The veteran guard out of San Diego was a difference maker from the jump as his shotmaking ability was too much for the Eagles to handle. Leading to Ellis to score 19 of his 35 in the first half alone. The Trojans led 52-33 at the half.
“He’s one of the greatest shooters I’ve ever coached,” said head coach Andy Enfield. “I was in the NBA before college, so that says a lot.”
Freshman Isaiah Collier dealt with foul trouble throughout the game but found a way to turn in a solid performance. Collier finished the game with 15 points and six assists.
Most importantly, Collier walked away from this game with only two turnovers in 23 minutes played. Both of his turnovers were charges taken by the Eagles.
“I think you saw a lot of growth tonight,” said Enfield on his talented freshman’s performance. “He was able to stay aggressive, make good decisions, stay under control and make the right play…. No live-ball turnovers for the game he’s never done that before.”
This was a great bounce back win for the Trojans who came up short in their matchup against Oklahoma on Black Friday.
Shortly before halftime, Bronny James appeared on the bench. Unlike last week, he didn’t do any pre-game shooting. He has yet to make his collegiate debut after suffering a cardiac arrest in July.
Up next for USC, is a big time matchup on Saturday night against #11 Gonzaga at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
