Los Angeles Rams Offseason Blueprint: Reloading for Another Super Bowl Run in 2026

The Los Angeles Rams find themselves at a fascinating crossroads as the 2026 NFL offseason kicks into high gear. Fresh off a spectacular 12-5 campaign that culminated in a heartbreaking 31-27 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game, the franchise is not resting on its laurels. Instead, general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay are aggressively retooling a roster that already boasts the league’s most explosive offense. With the NFL Draft looming and mandatory minicamps on the horizon, the Rams are making bold moves to ensure their championship window remains wide open.

Reflecting on the 2025 season, the Rams were nothing short of an offensive juggernaut. They led the entire National Football League in total offense, averaging an astonishing 394.6 yards per game, and finished as the top-scoring team with 30.5 points per contest. This offensive masterpiece was orchestrated by none other than Matthew Stafford, who captured the 2025 AP NFL Most Valuable Player award. Stafford’s season was a masterclass in quarterback play, as he threw for a league-leading 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns while tossing only eight interceptions. His remarkable 109.2 passer rating and ability to consistently move the chains—leading the NFL with 236 first downs—proved that the 37-year-old veteran is still at the absolute peak of his powers.

Stafford’s MVP campaign was supported by an incredible supporting cast, highlighted by the sensational performances of wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Nacua continued his meteoric rise, hauling in 129 receptions for 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns, solidifying his status as one of the premier pass-catchers in the game. Adams, playing on a two-year, $44 million contract, provided the perfect veteran presence opposite Nacua. Despite falling short in the NFC Championship, where Stafford threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns, the foundation for sustained success is clearly in place. In his MVP acceptance speech, Stafford emphatically confirmed his return for the 2026 season, declaring, “I’ll see you guys next year,” much to the delight of the Rams faithful.

Aggressive Moves in Free Agency and the Trade Market

While the offense grabbed the headlines in 2025, the Rams’ front office recognized the need to bolster a defense that allowed 20.4 points per game (10th in the NFL). The mandate was clear: improve the secondary to match the firepower of the offense. In a blockbuster move that sent shockwaves throughout the league, the Rams acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs. The price was steep—involving the Rams’ 2026 first-round pick (No. 29 overall), along with fifth and sixth-round selections, and a 2027 third-rounder—but the payoff is immense. McDuffie, widely regarded as one of the most versatile and talented defensive backs in football, was immediately signed to a four-year extension through the 2030 season, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

Coach McVay was effusive in his praise for the 25-year-old star, stating, “He can play into the boundary, can play to the field, he can play in the slot, he can blitz. He’s rare, and then he’s a rare human.” The acquisition of McDuffie signals a distinct shift in the Rams’ defensive philosophy, prioritizing physical, shutdown corners who can operate in multiple schemes.

To complement McDuffie, the Rams also signed his former Chiefs teammate, cornerback Jaylen Watson, to a three-year contract. This reunion in the secondary provides instant chemistry and championship experience. The team also secured its safety tandem by signing Kam Curl to a three-year deal and handing Quentin Lake a multi-year extension during the previous season. McVay emphasized the importance of this physical presence, noting, “All eleven are going to be tough. You’re not going to play if you’re not going to be tough for us. Both of these guys check those boxes.”

These aggressive additions meant parting ways with several contributors from the 2025 squad. Cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon, Roger McCreary, and Cobie Durant departed in free agency, signing with the Commanders, Lions, and Cowboys, respectively. The defense will undoubtedly have a new look and a new attitude when they take the field at SoFi Stadium this fall.

Coaching Staff Shakeups and Strategic Shifts

The changes in Los Angeles extend beyond the playing roster. The coaching staff has undergone significant turnover, beginning with the departure of offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, who accepted the head coaching position with the Arizona Cardinals. To fill the void, the Rams promoted Nate Scheelhaase from pass game coordinator to offensive coordinator. The move was widely praised, with LaFleur himself endorsing Scheelhaase’s promotion as an absolute “no-brainer.”

In perhaps the most intriguing coaching hire of the offseason, the Rams brought in Kliff Kingsbury as Assistant Head Coach. Kingsbury, the former Arizona Cardinals head coach who spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, brings a wealth of offensive knowledge and play-calling experience to McVay’s staff. His addition adds another brilliant offensive mind to a room that is already considered one of the most innovative in the sport.

On the defensive side, the Rams hired Jimmy Lake as their new Defensive Backs Coach. Lake’s hiring is particularly noteworthy as he was Trent McDuffie’s college coach at the University of Washington. This preexisting relationship should help seamlessly integrate the All-Pro cornerback into the Rams’ defensive scheme. With Aubrey Pleasant departing his role as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Backs coach, Lake and new Assistant Defensive Backs Coach Mike Hunter will be tasked with molding this revamped secondary into an elite unit.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 NFL Draft

Despite trading away their original 2026 first-round pick (No. 29) for McDuffie, the Rams still hold a premium selection in the upcoming NFL Draft. Thanks to a 2025 trade with the Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles possesses the No. 13 overall pick. This high selection presents a golden opportunity to add a blue-chip prospect to an already loaded roster.

Draft analysts are largely divided on which direction the Rams will go, but two positions stand out: wide receiver and offensive tackle. With Davante Adams turning 34 in December and entering the final year of his contract, and Puka Nacua reportedly entering rehab, adding another dynamic playmaker for Matthew Stafford makes logical sense. Mock drafts have linked the Rams to several standout collegiate receivers, including Indiana’s Omar Cooper Jr., Washington’s Denzel Boston, and USC’s Makai Lemon, the 2025 Biletnikoff Award winner.

Alternatively, the retirement of stalwart offensive tackle Rob Havenstein has created a potential void on the offensive line. While Coach McVay has expressed confidence in Warren McClendon Jr.’s ability to step up, the allure of drafting a premier tackle like Miami’s Francis Mauigoa at No. 13 might be too tempting to pass up. Protecting the 37-year-old MVP quarterback is paramount, and investing a top pick in the offensive line is a strategy that rarely fails.

Making a Massive Impact in the Los Angeles Community

While the Rams are fiercely committed to winning championships on the field, their dedication to the Los Angeles community is equally impressive. The organization has established itself as a pillar of community support, highlighted by the incredible success of the Rams Readers program. Launched in 2022, this literacy initiative has grown exponentially, reaching over 42,000 elementary school students across more than 150 schools in the Greater Los Angeles area.

The program’s impact is staggering. In the 2025 reading challenge alone, participating students logged an incredible 4.8 million minutes of reading, doubling the total from the previous year. Since 2023, students have accumulated over seven million minutes of reading. The initiative features the children’s book “Ride with Rampage,” which has been distributed to tens of thousands of students and is even available internationally in languages like Spanish and Mandarin. The Rams have partnered with prominent organizations such as Dr. Seuss Enterprises, After-School All-Stars, and the Disneyland Resort to make reading engaging and rewarding for young learners. Players like running back Kyren Williams have actively participated in school assemblies, bringing the excitement of professional football into the classroom.

Beyond literacy, the Rams are tackling broader societal issues. On May 9, 2026, the team will host WalkUnitedLA at SoFi Stadium in partnership with the United Way of Greater Los Angeles. Matthew Stafford will serve as the Honorary Chair for the event, which raises critical funds to support housing, education, and opportunities for underserved communities across the region. In 2025 alone, Rams players, staff, and cheerleaders contributed over 4,194 hours of community service, engaging nearly 30,000 students in health and wellness programs and supporting 130 different nonprofit organizations.

The Road to Super Bowl LXI

As the Rams prepare for the start of their offseason workout program on April 20, the expectations within the building are sky-high. Team President Kevin Demoff captured the sentiment perfectly during the NFL Annual Meeting, stating, “The bar for this organization needs to continue to rise.” Now a full decade into their return to Los Angeles, the franchise has firmly established itself as a perennial contender and a marquee attraction in the sports capital of the world.

The 2026 schedule presents a formidable challenge, featuring marquee home matchups against the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs. The team will also play an international game against their division rival San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, expanding the Rams’ global footprint.

With a reigning MVP at quarterback, an explosive array of offensive weapons, a completely revamped secondary featuring an All-Pro shutdown corner, and an innovative coaching staff, the Los Angeles Rams have constructed a roster capable of beating anyone on any given Sunday. The heartbreak of the NFC Championship loss has been replaced by a resolute determination to finish the job. The pieces are in place, the strategy is set, and the Rams are officially on a mission to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Los Angeles in 2026.
