LOS ANGELES — Karl Anthony-Towns and Anthony Edwards help the Timberwolves dominate the third quarter to put away the Clippers in a blowout 121-100 win in Los Angles on Monday Night.
The Timberwolves went into the third quarter trailing by five points but a 40-19 quarter put Minnesota in a comfortable 89-72 lead.
Towns finished the night with 24 points in three quarters and Edwards added 23 points. Rudy Gobert chipped in with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Clippers were demolished in the paint as they were outscored 60-34 at the rim.
Minnesota had six players finishing scoring double figures in the win.
“They played better than we did. Outcoached us, outplayed us and everything,” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said. “I thought just the physicality and attention to detail, they were better.”
Los Angeles was led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George who scored 18 points a piece.
George, made a three in the third quarter with 7:23 remaining which made him the all-time leader in 3-pointers made for the Clippers’ franchise passing former guard Eric Piatkowski with 739 made threes.
Los Angeles is now 27-7 since the beginning of December. This loss puts them in 3rd place in the Western Conference dropping the Clippers to 1.5 games behind first place.
