What Sparked the changes for the Sparks

In January 2023, the Sparks opened up positions for Chief Administrative Officer, General Manager, and Assistant General Manger.

The Chief Administrative Officer and General Manager titles were given to Karen

Bryant. From 1999-2014, Bryant worked for the Seattle Storm, holding positions such as vice president, chief operating officer and chief executive officer.

The Assistant Manager was another promotion for Eli Horowitz, who has been working with the Sparks since 2018. He was previously promoted in 2022 as the Senior Director before his new position. Horowitz started his journey with the Sparks as Public Relations Director.

A year later, the Sparks decided to make more changes in the front office. This time the Sparks were looking for a Public Relations Director and a new General Manger.

Lauren Douglas was named the Public Relations Director for the Sparks. Douglas has experience of working in the Los Angles sports market as she had worked with the Dodgers and Lakers.

Karen Bryant relieved her duties as General Manager to focus solely as the Chief Administrative Officer. As Bryant withdrew, former WNBA player Raegan Pebley was named the new General Manager for the Sparks.

From 2004-2023, Pebley was a Division 1 head coach for Utah State, Fresno State and TCU. Her experience with women’s basketball teams and player dynamics will be put to use in the new position.

All the moves the Sparks have made in the year span, show that the team is actively looking to improve the front office.

As the recent hires settle in, it will be interesting to see if there are any more moves in plan for the Sparks.
