LOS ANGELES — Ogunbowale, Billings and Siegrist lead the Wings to a close victory over the Sparks, 84-83.
Arike Ogunbowale scored 20 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Monique Billings had 21 points and 6 rebounds. While Maddy Siegrist also contributed with 15 points on 50% field goal shooting.
The activeness on defense was a huge advantage for Dallas. The Wings had a total of 6 blocks and 5 steals in the game. The Sparks only had 1 steal and 4 blocks.
“We’ve got to figure out the turnovers, last year we led the league in steals and were not generating turnovers right now” said Coach Miller.
The Sparks were not creating the same pressure as the Dallas defense. The Wings forced more turnovers with a total of 8, while the Sparks only forced 6 turnovers.
The Dallas defense was also effective in holding the Sparks to inefficient shooting. The Sparks shot only 39.5% from the field and 28.6% from three pointers.
The struggles on offense led to a they rallied from a 7 point deficit at the end of the third quarter. Los Angeles was able to rally and take a 78-76 lead with four minutes left in the game.
Despite the Sparks comeback, the Wings saw 8 points from Billings, Siegrist and Ogunbowale in the last four minutes to seal the victory for Dallas.
Although the Sparks lost, Cameron Brink and Dearica Hamby had a stong showing with a combined for 40 points.
Brink had 21 points on 7/12 field goals and 50% three point shooting. Hamby scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Sparks fall to 1-4 and are on the road for tonights game against Indiana. Los Angeles hopes to get revenge on Friday’s loss to Caitlin Clark and the Fever.
