Kings rounded up the Rangers, 3-1

LOS ANGELES – The Kings delivered on their power plays in their victory over the Rangers, 3-1.

Scoring 14 goals in their past two games, the Kings offense was hotter than fish grease. However, Los Angeles would be in for a tougher challenge from the Rangers.

New York’s defense and physicality slowed down the Kings offense, which made in a slow first period. The Rangers would then score the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead.

Although the Rangers had the early lead, the Kings would respond on their power plays. Kevin Fiala and Phillip Danault would both score a power-play goal to shift the momentum in the Kings’ favor.

Later in the third, where neither could score, Fiala would seal the deal for the Kings. With 15 seconds left, Fiala scored on an empty net which resulted in his second goal of the game.

As great as the Kings were on power plays, the goaltending was once again superb. Darcy Kuemper saved 22 shots and recorded a .957 save percentage.

“I think it’s just a bunch of guys in unison, I think you know the D are playing awesome, the forwards are helping the D out,” said Trevor Moore. “We’re all playing together, and we are a really hard team to beat.”

Team cohesion from the Kings showed up tonight as they kept the intensity on defense. Offensively, Los Angeles also sparked big plays to deliver an all-around win over the Rangers.

Despite the Rangers’ loss, Igor Shesterkin had a great performance, accumulating a .938 save percentage. J.T. Miller also provided the only goal New York had in the game.

Execution has been at its peak for the Kings as they have won nine of their last 10 games. Los Angeles will have to showcase their elite play when they hit the road to Colorado.

The Kings are aiming to continue their hot streak against the Avalanche on Thursday. A victory for Los Angeles will set them in prime position to have home ice for the playoffs.
