LOS ANGELES — The Kings dominated the power play in their big win over the Ducks, 6-1.
After an underwhelming loss to the Kraken, the Kings needed to bounce back against another eliminated Pacific team. This time the Kings would come out ready for the FreeWay Face-Off.
Power plays were the biggest storyline as the Kings had six opportunities while the Ducks had four. The Kings scored three goals on six of their attempts while the Ducks did not score once on their power plays.
“We’ve had different nights where I guess primarily penalty kills has been pretty good [while] power play hasn’t been great this year,” said Coach Hiller. “But we got them both done and that was the difference in the game, clearly.”
Along with the power plays, the Kings saw a well-rounded effort from the offense. The Kings had six players record at least two points.
Andrei Kuzmenko and Adrian Kempe both led the Kings with three points each. Both players dished out three assists.
Despite the blowout loss, Cutter Gauthier scored the only goal for the Ducks. Leo Carlsson and Alex Killorn were both credited with an assist on the goal.
The victory against the Ducks was a light test compared to the next challenge the Kings will face. Now Los Angeles will go up against an elite offense in the Colorado Avalanche.
Playoff implications will be on the line Saturday in Los Angeles against the Avalanche. A victory for the Kings will inch them closer to securing home ice in the first round.
