LOS ANGELES, CA– The Kings rallied with four goals in the third period to defeat the Golden Knights, 5-2.
Through the first two periods, the Golden Knights had the edge over the Kings. With a one-goal lead heading into the third, it looked like Vegas was showing why they were the one seed in the Pacific.
What started as a 2-1 lead for the Golden Knights completely disintegrated in the final period. An explosion from the Kings’ offense flipped the script against the biggest juggernaut in their division.
Trevor Moore scored his second goal of the game to even it at 2-2. While Moore delivered the first two goals for Los Angeles, the rest of the third period became the Quinton Byfield show.
On the last three Kings goals, Byfield had an assist on each of them. Three of the four assists Byfield had on the night came in the fourth period.
While Moore had the most goals and Byfield had the most assists, other Kings pitched in on the offensive showcase. Adrian Kempe dished out two assists while Warren Foegle recorded a goal and an assist.
Despite Vegas melting down in the third period, Brayden McNabb and Mark Stone built a lead for the Knights. McNabb and Stone scored the two goals for Vegas.
“Vegas is a team that’s been doing it well for a lot of years, and they’re a tough team, they got some great players over there,” Trevor Moore said. “We know it’s a potential first-round matchup, so it’s [an] important one for us.”
Although the Kings defeating the best team in the Pacific will help them in the standings, there is still more playoff implications on the line.
Another division rival in the Canucks, will come to town on Wednesday in order to move up in the standings. If the Kings want to make a push at home ice in the playoffs, they must defeat a playoff-hungry Vancouver team.
