Davis’ big performance not enough as Lakers fall to the Heat, 110-96, to drop below .500

Anthony Davis filled the stat sheet with 29 points, 18 rebounds, along with six assists and five blocks but the Lakers poor 3-point shooting night dooms them in, 110-96, defeat at the hands of the Miami Heat.

Davis joined Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid as the only players this season to record at least 25 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in a game.

It wasn’t enough as the Lakers shot just 4 of 30 on 3-pointers and committed 15 of their 22 turnovers in the first half.

“It’s a little bit of everything right now and if we keep on this trend, it’s not going to be good for us.” Davis said after the Lakers fell to 17-18. “It’s kind of obvious that we’ve got to figure it out sooner than later.”

Austin Reaves performed well adding 24 points. The rest of the team struggled as the Heat’s zoned overwhelmed them.

LeBron James struggled with his shot against the zone finishing 6 of 18 from the field and finished with a season-low 12 points. James was 0 for 6 from three.

James has scored 20 or fewer in three of his last five games. The league’s all-time leading scorer was not available for the media after the game.

The Lakers have dropped three straight games and has gone 3-9 since winning the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. The matchup with the Heat began a stretch where the Lakers will play 11 of 12 games in Los Angeles, including a “road game” against the Clippers.

“It’s human nature for you to get down and disappointed when those unfortunate things happen,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “But at the end of the day, it’s NBA basketball. It’s extremely hard to win in this league. You have to really pour all of yourself into each and every possession or as many as possible.

The Lakers will look to get back to .500 when they face-off against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.
