LOS ANGELES, CA– The Kings scored three goals in the third period to put away the Senators, 5-2.
Kevin Fiala, Anže Kopitar and Trevor Moore were the three players who helped secure the three scoring plays in the final period.
Moore assisted Kopitar on the goal that gave them a 3-2 lead early in the third. Fiala assisted Adrian Kempe on the fourth goal. As Kopitar assisted Moore on his empty net goal.
Fiala, Kopitar and Moore all collected two points each. They all scored one goal and delivered one assist on the night.
Los Angeles controlled the tempo as they had more shots on goal. The Kings had 27 shots while the Senators only had 22.
Along with more shot attempts, more power plays greatly benefited the Kings as well. Los Angeles had three power plays and were able to score a goal. Ottawa did not score on their only power play.
“We just want to keep our stick down and skate, Coach Hiller said. “You know to try to not put them on the power play.”
To complement the efficiency on offense, the Kings’ defense ruffled the Senators. Los Angeles had 36 hits while Ottawa had 31.
Not only did the Kings have more hits, but they acquired more blocked shots as well. Los Angeles had 20 blocks as the Senators had 14.
The Kings defense may have allowed two goals in the first two periods, but they stepped up in the final period. The Senators were held scoreless, which allowed the Kings to take over.
Despite the loss, Tim Stutzle and Adam Gaudette both contributed with a goal for the Senators.
The Kings have now obtained their first three-game winning streak of the season. They will try to make it four straight wins when the Stars come to Los Angeles on Wednesday.
