The Rick Thorne Show

Comedian Ryan Talmo, aka Valley Jesus and a cancer survivor, joins Rick Thorne to talk about running the San Fernando Valley open mic scene for about 15 years. He explains where the Valley Jesus nickname came from, hosting The Liquid Zoo in Van Nuys for 12 years, moving from San Diego to Tarzana in 2010, and how a bad breakup and depression led him to his first open mic. He also talks about running his first room at the Oaks Tavern in Sherman Oaks, why so many comics are "sad clowns," influencers trying stand-up, balancing comedy with family, and getting his Maui Sugar Mill and Corbin Bowl rooms into the Netflix Is a Joke festival.
